One year ago today, Dina and I held our breath in a darkened exam room as our doctor studied an ultrasound glowing on a screen overhead.Years of tests, procedures and crushing losses convinced us that this attempt, possibly our last, had failed as well.“There is a pregnancy in the uterus,” the doctor intoned as we tried to comprehend the nebulous white blob on the screen. He continued to speak but a fog descended and I only remember hearing him call out, “Have a great pregnancy!” as we danced out the door.We celebrated. For about 10 minutes. And then we packed up the truck, drove to western Massachusetts and said goodbye. That is how my year at Farm School started. And now it’s over – a year has passed. To be honest, I’m still putting my thoughts together and making plan for the seasons to come, but I have something to share – a gift of sorts from my best childhood friend, Dylan Trivette, who happens to be a gifted filmmaker. He’s been chronicling this year in our lives as part of a larger project and this first chapter speaks to the anxiety and excitement of that first day in ways more eloquent than I could ever hope to be.[ylwm_vimeo height="400" width="700" portrait="false" byline="false"]55676923[/ylwm_vimeo]
